A Refugee Travel Document allows refugees in Canada to travel outside of canada without a passport from their home country. A PR travel document (PRTD also known as Form IMM 5529) allows Canadian permanent residents who are not in the country to prove their immigration status on their return to Canada. More information is available from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (CIC). i have PRTD until march 15 2017 but i need extention until june 15 2017 so can i applyed for extention to go to canada
You need to apply for a brand new Permanent Resident Travel Document because you cannot extend the expiry date of your current PRTD.
I am a refugee from Colombia and two years ago I was under investigation for an urgent travel to Colombia by CBSA office. The case was investigated and closed after my interview with the CBSA officer. The company where I work for needs to send me to The United State so, I applied for my Refugee Travel document and it was granted but, the Passport Office kept my Colombian passport that will expire in 5 years. The Government of The United State does not grant visa over a Canadian Travel Document and, my Citizenship application has been in process for the last 16 months. The solution I see now is returning the Refugee Travel Document and they will send me back my Colombian passport. I am not sure if the CBSA will investigate me as I will travel to The United State using my Colombian passport with my USA visa on it and my Canadian Permanent Resident Card to come back to Canada.
It seems unlikely that your Colombian passport will be released just because you had in your Refugee Travel Document. But you can try. You will need to provide proof that you need to travel from your employer (on company letterhead). Due to your need to travel for work, you can request your citizenship application be expedited.
I’m Iranian I have Canadian travel document I would love to go to Mexico for vacation. Do I need visa?
You should check with the nearest Mexican diplomatic mission about whether or not you will need a visa ahead of time. Most Canadians get visas at the port of entry in Mexico, but that may not be the case for Refugee Travel Document holders.
My PR card has expired and I applied for a PR card renewal. My renewal application has been accepted but I have not yet received my PR card because it is still in production. I am travelling to my country in a few days and will not be able to receive the PR card before I leave. If I apply for a PR Travel Document as soon as I reach my country, how long do you think it will take for me to get it. Could there be any complications or am I guaranteed to receive it.
A PRTD application usually takes about 2-3 weeks to process, though processing times vary between offices. Provided you submit all the required information, you should be issued the PRTD if you already qualified for the new PR Card.
I’ve got the confirmation of permanent residence and I’m from a visa exempt country (Switzerland). Do I have to apply for a permanent resident travel document anyway? My flight is departing December 29th and it seems too short to me to send my original passport to France in order to get the PRTD.
A Permanent Resident Travel Document is for Canadian permanent residents who do not have a valid PR Card while outside of Canada. If this is your situation your only two options are:
I was granted a record of landing when I was 3 years old. however I left Canada and in my home country for 17 years . Returns to Canada at age 20 year 2010 in order to keep my status. However the process was taking long so I left cause I had little info and didn’t want to over stay. return on a vacation this year 2016 and had no problems entering. Does that mean I lost my status and can I apply for a PRTD. If not what steps can I take?

I am a permanent resident in Canada and have a family trip dream vacation for Dec 17 and returning on Dec 24. Unfortunately my wallet got stolen and I loose all my documents, including my PR Card. I have a Portuguese passport and call the Canada embassy regarding the travel document, but because we are going for a very short period of time that can’t guarantee that the document will be processed before my departure. We are travelling as a big family group (13 people) and some of them are flying for Portugal. This is like a dream vacation and a family reunion. Called immigration and they said my replacement card is being processed but after I’d done they will put it on regular mail and can take up to 2 weeks for me to receive it. In my situation what are my options?
Your best option is to change your return flight to the flight to the US. Get an ESTA visa waiver if you don’t have one already. Fly to an airport close to your home in Canada. And then get someone to pick you up in the US in their car. You can enter Canada by car without a PR Card.
I am a Swiss citizen, with an expired PR card. I’m in Mexico City and I don’t know where to go apply for my travel documents. I need to do it in person as I have very little time to spare.

We have to travel to the United States in 3 weeks. I’m a Canadian citizen and hold a valid Canadian passport. My husband has been a permanent resident of Canada for 36 years, is still a US citizen and holds a valid US passport. We just realized that his PR card has expired and he can’t renew it in time before our flight. How long does it take to get a travel document for a one time re-entry to Canada?
Because your husband is an American citizen, he can come to Canada without a PR Card. He does not need to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document.
I am new immigrant just landed 3 weeks before. I need to leave Canada but do not receive my PR Card yet. What should I do?what are chances for Rejection of PRTD in my case.
You should not be rejected for your PRTD because you haven’t had a chance to meet the residency obligation yet.
I am new immigrant just landed Canada two weeks ago. I applied for PR card at Canada airport. Now i want to go back to my country for next 90 days. Should I able to get approved PRTD from visa officer or there will be rejection on basis of residence obligation? or Should i met residence obligations as mentioned?
You can apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document. You haven’t had a chance to meet the residency obligation yet so there shouldn’t be an issue applying for the PRTD.
I am an Canadian citizen. My wife is a permanent resident. Her PR card expires days before our trip to Argentina. We have asked for urgent processing of her PR renewal, but are doubtful it will complete in time because the urgency is only the travel dates. We are going to apply for a PRTD in Argentina upon arrival. One thing that they are asking for in the checklist is a copy of all my old passports. I don’t have my old passports, just my current passport. I renewed it just a couple years ago. Is this going to be an issue?
Why are they asking for your passports? Unless they are trying to verify that your wife was travelling with you outside of Canada and that’s how she meets the residence requirement, there’s no reason for them to ask to see a Canadian citizen’s previous passports. It’s your wife who needs to provide this information.
Is there a way to expedite the process for getting a PRTD in Mexico if waiting three weeks will be a financial hardship?
There is no official way to expedite the Permanent Resident Travel Document application process, but you could always ask the staff at the Embassy or Consulate where you are applying.

Something is seriously wrong with this picture:
- If you landed at 3 and left for 17 years, you should not have been able to re-enter Canada as a permanent resident. If you were allowed in, it was only because they did not know you were still a permanent resident. (If you have information that contradicts this, you should ask for clarification from an immigration consultant or lawyer. For example: if you were allowed to maintain your status for humanitarian reasons.)
- Not remaining in Canada at age 20 in 2010 almost certainly doomed you to losing your status. Had you stayed in Canada for over 2 years at that time, you could have kept your status by applying for a PR Card some time in 2012 or 2013.
- Given that you were allowed to return to Canada in 2016, it seems as though you are not a Permanent Resident. You should look in you passport to confirm this: is there an entry stamp?
- Based on the information provided, you are not eligible for a Permanent Resident Travel Document or PR Card as it sounds like you do not have permanent residence status in Canada. However, if you have omitted crucial information, we could be wrong about that.
