Is the application for a Limited Validity Passport, the same as the regular application for a child’s passport?

In most circumstances, limited validity passports are issued to Canadians who are not able to provide original proof of Canadian citizenship at the time the passport is issued. Also if travel plans cannot be deferred, a limited passport maybe issued (for a maximum of 2 years), however child’s proof of travel, itinerary or airline ticket would need to be submitted along with a fully completed passport application. Each individual case is reviewed by Passport Canada, who will determine the necessity of issuing a limited validity passport to meet your child’s travel needs.

It is not in your best interests to apply for the limited validity passport if you have no immediate travel plans. We suggest you wait until you have fixed plans for travel and submit a regular application, which takes on average 15 working days to process your child’s passport.
