My father was born in England, but became a Canadian citizen. I believe he held dual passports. He died four years ago and I am wondering if I can still apply/am eligible to apply for a British passport?

More than likely, your father was a British citizen when he died. (Unless he was born a very long time ago, he wouldn’t have lost his UK citizenship by becoming a Canadian citizen.) In order to prove this, you will need

  • a copy of your long-form birth certificate, including your father’s name
  • a copy of your father’s last UK passport or his English birth certificate
  • a copy of your parent’s marriage certificate.
