I am a Canadian born in 1969 in Windsor Ontario Canada. My father born in London and my mother in Jamaica. They were living in Canada when I was born and were both British citizens at the time. I would like to apply for a UK passport. What supporting documents do I need from my parents and do I need originals. They will all be very difficult to obtain.

You only need original documents for a British passport application if requested by the UK authorities, but you will need legible copies and certified copies are better if possible.

For your UK passport application you will need:

  • Your father’s English birth certificate
  • Your parents’ marriage certificate
  • Your long-form birth certificate, listing both your parents on it.
